RENT A BIKE AT OOTY(NILGIRIS) / COONOOR / KOTAGIRI
The nilgiris on the western ghats of southern India is known for its cool climate, green mountains, variety of wild lifes, old British heritage, tea plantations, tourist locations, cinema shooting spots and much more tourist locations.
Want to explore Ooty of wheels? Basically I am a adventure lover, love to travel and explore this beautiful world. For out staioners and foreign tourists the option to explore the various tourist spots is by hired taxi or Tamilnadu state transport buses. Buses are not frequent and does not cover every location. Taxi ride is costly and not good for explorers.
In recent times renting of bikes becomes popular in India especially in tourist locations. Bikes are cheap compared to cars and SUVs. Bikes can be ridden easily in traffic congested tourist locations and narrow lanes/roads. They give more mileage per gallon/liter of petrol which is cheap and economical option for budget travellers. Hence many startups have recently come forward and setup their business of bike rentals. They offer variety of Motors cycles and scooters like Royal Enfield, Hero Honda bikes, BAjaj bikes, TVS bikes, KTM bikes, kawasaki, ducati, Harley davidson etc.
I have been working and living in Kotagiri a Taluk of Nilgiris since past 5 years. My native is coimbatore District of Tamilnadu. I am cycling enthusiast and bike enthusiast. Own several cycles and bikes. Recently i became aware of this Bike rental concept. I myself used some of the bike rental services in coimbatore and satisfied with the service.
The idea of renting my bikes suddenly came to my mind and I researched in the internet about this. First I wanted to know if bike rentals are legal. I came to know that there was a Motor vehicle law known as RENT A MOTOR CYCLE SCHEME, 199.
The act states that, "In exercise of powers conferred by section 75 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of1988), Central Government (of India) hereby makes the following scheme for regulating the business of renting of Motor Cycles to persons desiring to drive the motor cycles for their own use and matters connected therewith, namely:"...
I am not aware if all states in India have adopted that act and implemented them... But am still curious of doing this bike rental business in ooty. I live near kotagiri bus stand and my residence is very close to ooty main road. So i think my location is advantageous to me and tourists can find my place easily for picking up their bikes.
